I am done! I actually completed my first day of student teaching. I am a little worried about getting to know peoples names. Thank God for seating charts! hahaha The rest of the day went well though. I have a list for myself already of things I need to do already. I planner is getting full by the minute. I am so glad that my brain has only one thing to focus on compared to last semester. Im sure all of you agree with that! I cant wait to hear all of your stories. Miss you all!
Hey guys!! Hope you all had fabulous first days! I was thinking of you all today, hoping it went well! So pueblo was great! All the kids seem great so far. Although, Lauren, I'm definitely with you on learning all the kids names...seating charts are for sure my new best friend! So just found out about an fccla thing next tuesday (13th) at UA....are you guys going to this? I hope so! Excited to see you all on thursday and hear all your stories! Missing you! ~Megan
Hello Girls!! Hope that your first days were all good from what I have read they were all good! My 1st day was good! The name thing will take time there are so many students but im sure I will learn them. Today was a lot of learning with the computer and filling in my calendar for upcoming days. The students were very welcoming and they were all very interested in me being in the class which was nice that they were all so welcoming. Good luck to you all the rest of the week and we will see you Thursday! Work on your portfolio LAUREN!!! hahaha
Hey Nick say good or welcoming a little bit more! hahahahaha and dont tell me what to do! 5 bucks says you havent started it! lol and Megan I will be there on Tuesday as well for the FCCLA thing. Should be fun!

The students were so welcoming, it was so good, my first day was good.
Now that you two are all good and welcomed out, I hope you will start on your portfolios for Thursday's session.
I missed seeing Breanna's post, so I have written her to see what she's up to.
Here's a good name memorizing strategy. In each class, choose 5 or 6 people whose names you cannot put to a face. Then use the period to locate and talk to (if possible) those 5 people and take notes about how to remember them.
You could also have them make name plates out of halves of old file folders and use them until you've located and memorized everybody to make this go faster. I'll give you a good introductory strategy using these later.
Dr. Kelly has jokes! haha So today I have just been asking students to remind me of what their name is and all have been willing. But those strategies sound good as well! I also was wondering again what pages of our portfolio should be done by Thursday? Please let me know! Thanks so much.
Hello All. So I definitely had this all typed yesterday to post to the blog but then I got to login and I totaled blanked on the password and everything. Therefore, here is finally my first day.
My first day of student teaching included all kinds of things. First to start the day off the heat wasn't working in our end of the building or the admin building a pump broke that morning. Therefore, it was quite cold in the classroom. Then the internet and attendance system genesis was having problems. It took me an hour to load all the students for this semester into the system. I also got a set of the classroom keys which was quite exciting. I was introduced to the students and one class in particular was very excited to hear that I would be teaching them first. There are a lot of names to learn but like Lauren said thank goodness for seating charts and pictures on genesis for attendance. I also learned how to take attendance. Otherwise I just observed and helped my cooperating teacher, Sharon with the computer and internet problems. One site on U.S. News about careers was blocked so we didn't get to use, the new web sense blocked it. Yet we could watch any video on you tube we wanted, don’t you love school systems. I also attended a student assessment meeting. This student had been having difficulty in classes and was failing all of them and also was having emotional problems. The student took different assessments for a diagnosis. Finally the student qualifies under the bipolar disorder and falls short in reading and writing but has an average math knowledge. Also the student’s total IQ score is relatively lower than average. The student will have an emotional learning disability first and then a learning disability in reading and writing second. They suggested placing the student in special education and having an IEP and caseworker. Although the student does not want to be in special education.
Today was my second day and for remembering student names I created a seating chart for each classroom with pictures of each student's face so that I can look at them to make the names easier to remember. I also got to use my keys and took attendance in genesis (an online attendance system). Also the heat is not going to be fixed anytime soon. So I'm probably taking a heater to the classroom tomorrow because it's chilly in there. Tomorrow we have a starboard training for the district in the classroom I’m at. Too bad we don’t have smartboards. =(
Well our school will not be attending the FCCLA Regional Meeting at the U of A next Tuesday the 13th. We were trying to get the meeting/workshops moved to the morning because right now it goes tour, lunch, and then meeting/workshops. Our buses would have had to leave by 1pm from the U of A so we wouldn’t have been able to do much. Have fun though!
i just read all your comment....oh my gosh you guys are too funny! dr kelly...i have a little bit done for the portfolio, but not a whole lot...what would you like us to have completed by thurs??
so my second day was good as well...i learned how to use mojave (the computer program for attendance) as well as how to use making the grade- a computer program for grades, and have already started using both! gotta love technology! and then we had a staff meeting for the whole school today, where i got to meet a bunch of other teachers, so that was cool. we have a lot more special needs children in all the classes- way more than i was aware of, so it will be good practice for me to learn how to cater to all different learning needs.
have a good day tom! (breanna- hope it's a little warmer for you tom!)
Don't worry-there's not a whole lot to do. Come with your portfolio divided into the major sections (content knowledge, planning, etc) and one artifact/item for each section. We'll look at what people have and come up with ideas of what else could be in each section.
Sounds great. For the portfolio I divided the sections and have at least one artifact in each so I guess I'll bring it Thursday.
Thanks Megan but I doubt it will be warmer, I am bringing a small heater to stick by our desk (ha it's going to take 2-3 days to fix but it will probably be longer).
Oh Breanna...you always have such interesting stories. I would rather it be too cold then too hot, but just my opinion. So working on this portfolio is so much fun!!! haha I will be doing a whole lot of printing tonight. What section are you guys putting your smartboard training certificate under? let me know! :) Breanna, Im kinda bummed your not going to be there on Tuesday but I guess we will have to survive without you. Hey Nicholas! Are you going? Ok and I have another question...where do we meet tomorrow and what do we wear? Do I have to wear teacher clothes again?....If anyone knows, pass on the knowledge!
You do need to wear teacher clothes tomorrow and be there at 8:30a.m., a time break for most of you, I imagine. It's in the Student Union North Ballroom, I believe.
Bring your student teacher guidebook and your calendar. We'll be making appointments for my first visit and scheduling our seminars. See you at 9:15 a.m. for the portfolio. I miss you devils!!
