Since this is the week most of you begin teaching your first class, please share what you are learning and thinking. Preparing for teaching is one process that I know you all know how to do quite well. The act of teaching brings you into an entirely new realm of possibilities and critical reflection that we need to give voice to.

Today went really well! Each class was different in their own ways but Jennifer had nothing but positive feedback for me. :) Im going to struggle with my 4th period because Jennifer has said that she lets them get away with more because they get all their work done. So Im worried, based on what I saw today, that they are going to take advantage of me. Jennifer said to come on strict and then ease up cause that is easier then not being strict then trying to set rules and be strict later on. Also, today was kind of hard cause I dont really have a voice. But I am really excited for the next classes. All the kids were very welcoming and seemed very interested! They are really accepting of me being their new teacher. I love it!
Oh...and I had them tell me why they were in the class as their bellwork. I have decided to write back to them on each of their sheets of paper. It may take awhile but it allows me to make a first connection with them individually. :) Some of their responses are very interesting but it allows me to put a face to the name and an understanding of why they are here. Thats it for now!

Well today was my first day with one class which worked out great. As I said before they are making Pizzas today so I lectured for about 5 minutes, most of the time was spent going over rules. I also thought that it would only be fair to them to explain what all is going on with me student teaching. I basically told them how it will work and that Dr Kelly would be there sometimes and other times there might be a video camera. After that things went really smooth. It is just different because I am only lecturing to them for 5-10 minutes at a time and the rest of the time they are in their kitchens working on things. It is a lot of fun though I am really enjoying it!
glad to hear you guys had such great first classes!! like lauren, im also sick right now, and have no voice, so teaching was somewhat interesting today! haha. but i took over one class, and it was great. i started off by explaining that i would be taking over as their teacher for the rest of the semester, and i got a lot of excitement from the class when i said that, which was so reassuring! i then went into the rules, and just reiterated that the same rules that they had w/ mrs hardin apply to me as well. i'm excited to be working with this class, as they are such a great group of kids. lauren, from my little experience so far w/ difficult kids, i totally agree with what jennifer told you. start out strict, and make it clear that although you are a student teacher, you still require respect and you do have the ability to discipline them. i was strict with my class today, but it made it so much easier, because they now have already realized that they can't take advantage of me, and other than having to move a kid who was being too social, i had no problems w/ people listening to me/ viewing me as an authority. although i do understand how you feel, cause our 7th period class is like that too, am im quite certain they'll try to take advantage of me somehow once i take over that period, so i get where you're coming from. just establish discipline in the beginning, and im sure you'll be awesome!
despite the lack of voice, i had a lot of fun, and am really enjoying working at pueblo. also, mary gave me feedback on my lesson afterward, and had only positive things to say, and was very complimentary, which of course made me feel even more confident in my teaching!
happy first week of teaching everyone! see you wed!
Well I have been teaching for two days now. After today that will be three. Last week we started on line and yesterday we finished line and each student found a picture of a vertical, horizontal, curvilinear, and diagonal line. Then they had to label and identify the lines in a magazine picture of a room as well as write the feelings they created in the room. I have come to learn that it is important that if students complete an assignment and do not do well on something to revisit that particular topic, for instance what feelings lines evoke. Today I am going to do a short review on feelings lines evoke and am also going to state how if I say something many times in a PowerPoint that it is important to write it down. I’m also coming to see that even thought I want every student to succeed and get an A on almost every assignment some students just do not care about doing work or the grades they get. I will write some more later. I have to go teach now. See you guys Wednesday!
Oh boy. Today I only had 7 students here today out of a class of 17 and then one student got a pass to counseling at the beginning of class. So now we're done to 6. We decided to go to plan B which was having a student redo their line assignment and work on other assignments they needed to correct.
There was supposed to be a field trip today with only the N Academy but then we found out the N and the O Academy both went so lots of students will be missing today. Always have a plan B arranged even if you make it up as you go along. =)
Good Job Breanna!!!! Im so excited to see all of you tomorrow. Im just getting prepared right now to teach my second lesson. It should be fun! I had to make an example and I had fun with it. lol Hope you guys are having a great day!

Thanks. YEAH, for word search generators. It's going to be extra credit if they find all the words. Lauren I made an example yesterday for what I was going to be teaching on texture today but didn’t get to. I’m going to teach Texture next week and rework some days to accommodate for today.
I have had a great experience during my form and shape lesson, which allowed students to create a form while molding dough. I just had a suggestion for everyone. Students really enjoy and participate in lessons that are more engaging and utilize visual, audio, and kinesthetic techniques. During my student teaching I am going to try to engage students a much as I can. If the lesson is boring the students will not be interested. Hope everyone has a great Friday!
So yesterday some stuff was going on here at CDO and Jennifer had to leave unexpectedly to a meeting off campus. When she left was the time that I had my beginning level class. They had to have another teacher come in and watch the class even though I was teaching. The students presented their drawings and then I still had a lot of time left so I asked them some questions about toddlers. The teacher said I did a great job and this morning at the teacher breakfast I guess she told Jennifer how I did a wonderful job at running and controlling the class and that I looked like a natural at what I was doing. It felt so good to hear that from a random teacher that I had never met before on this campus. :) It should be a good Friday...busy one...but good! Hope you all have a wonderful day and hope your feeling better Megan!
