How was Tuesday after the MLK holiday for you and your classes? Was it difficult to get people back on track or just business as usual?
What's occupying your time these days during school hours? What have you accomplished and what are you struggling with?

I thought I'd surprise you and respond to this post.
It's my second day of class in 288 and everyone was there early and ready to start!! In the middle of class, we took a 15 minute break to go downstairs to the lobby and hear the president's speech on the four screens made into one large screen. Afterwards, people thanked me for taking time to note the big event and allowing them to watch it. We actually did all that I planned and got out on time.
I've been spending my week so far helping people get their schedules straight and dealing with the reality that the massive budget shortfall may be the one that causes the FACS major to be eliminated due to its small size. In lieu of laying people off, all faculty were polled today to see if we'd be willing to take 2 days of unpaid leave per month (gulp) to help save money.
Well the inauguration was on T.V. all day. So we watched that which kind of discombobulated things already. Then to add to everything, during the morning we had a bomb scare and were evacuated to the football field where we waited for about 3 hours while dogs sniffed the school looking for a bomb and making sure the school grounds were safe. At first the teachers thought it was a drill but it wasn’t and I thought there were way too many police there for it to be a drill. Then we found out that there was a note found about a bomb, etc. It certainly was an interesting day. The students were very unhappy they had to stay in the football bleachers until everything was all clear even though it was for their own safety. We didn’t have any students to keep track of because it was prep. That’s the short version. Hope everyone else had a better first day back!
Well Today was a good day for me when the students showed up to class they were all on task for the most part. We did not allow them to watch the inauguration and suprisingly none of the students asked to watch it either. As for me I have been spending my time helping in the class. Mr. Gillaspie has been really helpful in updating me on how certain foods are cooked ahead of time which helps me out tremendously! Other then that I have been busy planning for next week which is my first week of taking control of a class. Monday the students will be making PIZZA! I know that you are all jealous! haha
We had the inauguration on all day yesterday. It was interesting to talk to students and get their feedback about it. I feel like the students are really connecting with me now. They talk to me about so much or if they have questions they ask me. I feel more and more like a teacher everyday. Today a girl asked me to write a pass to another class cause she was going to be late. I know Im a nerd but I loved doing that. So yeah yesterday was just a really relaxed day. And nick you may get pizza but I get mini corn dogs from my preschool and cookies that one of the parents brought in. They were amazing! They had Butterfinger in them! mmmmmmmm :) Like nick, I am busy planning my first week which is next week when I will take over both Early Childhood 1 classes. I cannot wait! Im getting ancy! Oh I was looking at fun templates for powerpoint to make my powerpoints a little more exciting. I found a website that Jennifer and I are in love with now. They have a template that is an egg with sperm swimming to it! hahahaha she loves that one! So check out the website. Its free and REALLY easy to download.

So thats it for now. Im off to go write some more lesson plans. Jennifer is teaching about alcohol, drug, and shaken affected babies. There is a weird mood in the room. eeeeeek. :/ Hope all is well! Cant wait to see you all in a week!
Much love,
Lauren
hello!!!
so i love reading all your comments and hearing what you've been up to!
so yesterday and today were crazy for me as well. yesterday because of the inauguration and just the first day back after a long weekend, made for some very energetic kids. but im glad we had the opportunity to watch and discuss the inauguration with the kids.
although today was a little tougher than usual, i would say that in general, i'm feeling the same way as lauren, in that the kids are really starting to view me as an authority figure, and really respecting me as their teacher now as well, which is so great. (and just for the record, you are so not a nerd for getting excited by that, or if you are that means i am too! haha! when that happened to me last week, i totally geeked out!)
and breanna, wow, what a crazy day you had! im glad everything was okay in the end, though!
can't wait to see you all/ catch up next week...
lots of love,
megan
I take over a Beginning Interior Design Class tomorrow. I'm very excited. I've sent copies up for my unit plan and some have already come back. I've also been helping answer questions in class and students are even starting to call me by my name, Ms. Sherrow instead of shouting Primeau help me! I also hate when they yell Miss. I have a block plan already made for what I'm teaching in the Beginning Design classes up until April. I just need to finish the lessons now. Lately I’ve been working on lessons and PowerPoint’s for the principles of design.
Lauren I've been looking for PowerPoint templates as well.
Here's another free website for PowerPoint templates:
http://www.templateswise.com/
what stinks about the templatewise website is that they are downloaded into a zip file! Those are too difficult for me to figure out and work with. But thanks for the other website. Jennifer and I have way too much fun downloading fun templates!
You have to download the zip file and then click on the folder from your computer and then in the folder will be a version in PowerPoint you have to open and rename. There are lots of different colorful templates.
