Week eight: Midterm time!

Although you are still working up to a full load, I thought I'd remind everybody that you are half way through this experience!!

Think of all the ideas that you had about teaching and how they've changed. Think about what hasn't changed and what you still need to work on. Becoming a good teacher is a journey, not a destination, isn't it?

This week, try to reflect on yourself as a teacher using the thoughts in the previous paragraph or those that you might want to add. I'm looking forward to hearing from you!!

And, of course, enjoy the Rodeo Break, you lucky devils!!

Week 7

Please post your comments relative to week 7 of teaching.

I know the TUSD two are having parent conferences this week. Here's a site with great tips: http://712educators.about.com/od/teachingstrategies/tp/parent_teacher_conference.htm?nl=1For those of you who have already had parent-teacher conferences, here's another tip:Good Phone Call Home - Why do phone calls home always have to be negative? Set this standard on its head by letting parents and guardians know how great their child is doing in your class. Most students will work really hard to get this kind of individualized recognition that will make a big difference at home. This is also a wonderful opportunity to solidify your relationship with parents. They want to know that you love their child and this is an easy way to make everyone happy. E-mails are also appreciated!!I CHALLENGE YOU TO MAKE AT LEAST ONE GOOD PHONE CALL OR E-MAIL IN EACH CLASS YOU ARE TEACHING!! (Once you have, report back here and tell us about it!!).

Week five: What it means to be a professional

Since we're all attending the FACS Winter conference this week, let's focus on what it means to be a professional. People are viewing you differently these days. What does that feel like? What are you thinking about? How has your behavior changed?

Of course, any other comments related to teaching are also welcomed.
