So...last week was crazy busy! Im still trying to catch up on sleep yet its not working out too well. I had a wedding this past weekend and didnt go to school Friday because of it so Jennifer had to teach my class for me. I emailed her everything but just our luck, the email went down that day. So she had to call me and we got the problem fixed. The interesting thing I got to do last week was worry about getting the grades done. Grades were due Thursday so I had students coming to me left and right turning things in. It was unfortunate when I had to turn them away and give them no points since their absence was unexcused on that day. I have been loving teaching. For the first time yesterday I got really frustrated with my students. They would not listen to directions and so I kept having to repeat them. I talked to Jennifer and she advised me that after I have explained it twice, to have them start asking other students because I have already explained it as many times as I needed too. Tonight Megan and I are going to a Child Abuse workshop. It should be very interesting and will definitely help me teach that unit. Tomorrow we have our Valentines Party in preschool so everyone is excited for that! I will fill you in more later. But that is it for now.

Yesterday I gave my first test for the elements of design. It is quite different giving the test and then grading it then it was taking tests in college or high school. There were a variety of grades most were A's and B's but there were some C's and D's and only a few F's. The highest grade was a 98/100. I was currently only teaching one class but proctored the test in each class. Today I start teaching 3 classes however it’s a block day today and tomorrow. Therefore I only teach one class today and two tomorrow. I agree with Lauren about being busy. Our progress report grades were due no later then Tuesday (Yesterday) but I had all my grades entered last Friday. Tonight is an information night at Mountain View for the eight graders to look at the electives and other classes they have to choose from. Teachers have made bulletin boards and posters. I contributed to the Hospitality Management board and have been marketing this class to my current students in our classes.

I’m looking forward to Rodeo break, which is pretty soon! Yeah!

Ya it's definitely been busy for me as well! Last night i went with Lauren to a lecture on child abuse put on by casa de los ninos, to get some good ideas for lessons when i teach that unit later on in the semester. it was great, and definitely really helpful! i also went to a lecture a couple weeks ago put on by succeeds about respectful communication in early childhood education, so i've defnitely learned a lot outside the classroom as well.

today was our valentine luncheon- to raise money for fccla, and for our charity, which is smile train. our kids cooked the whole meal, set up the room, and then served the teachers in both lunches. (we have 2 lunches at pueblo). so it was a long day, but rewarding. the students had fun, and the teachers all enjoyed it, so all in all it was a success.

i've been teaching a unit on conception and reproductive systems as a precursor to pregnancy, so it's definitely been interesting, seeing all of their reactions to everything. i'm now teaching 2 classes, and will be taking over a third shortly. it is amazing to me how differently two periods can respond so differently to the same lesson.

it has also been amazing to me to see how different children respond to me as their teacher. i've had quite a lot who at the beginning didnt see me as an authority, and when i took over did everything to test my limits. over the past couple weeks, they've really changed and now respect me, and look at me as an authority and it's been so interesting to see this transition and change occur.

we also had progress reports due last friday, so i totally understand the craziness you guys were feeling. i had work coming at me from every angle. next week we have parent teacher conference night, so that should be interesting- ive been told most parents don't show up, so we'll see.

hope you're all currently having wonderful weeks!

ps. i had the same question for you dr kelly...are we supposed to go the symposium dinner???

Thanks, Lauren, for calling me for an answer on this.
I thought I had said that meals were not included in your free registration, but maybe I was talking to myself...LOL.

Hello all. Today I had a substitute with me because Sharon is at a Career Day at the Middle School. It is interesting to see how student’s react knowing that the only person who can answer you questions is the student teacher (myself). This was second hour though and I have already been teaching them. I feel that some of the classes are adjusting more and being more accepting of me teaching them which is great.

It is wonderful to hear nice compliments from someone you do not know. The substitute today said I did an excellent job and she was impressed how much I involved the students in the lesson by having them draw examples. also liked how well I explained concepts in depth. Today was proportion and scale and they made unrealistic collages of each.

So Breanna, were they making unrealistic collages on proportion and scale as part of the lesson or is that how they came out?

Actually the plan was to make unrealistic collages all along, so that the students could better understand the concept and see what bad proportion and scale look likes.

Megan, I agree. Different classes have different personalities and react differently to the same lesson. I've taught three classes the same lesson and each class has a different level of understanding and pace. Second hour is much quieter than the other two classes and is very respectful. Third hour is not as respectful and likes to talk. Sixth hour likes to talk and not raise their hands.

Breanna,
That's what I thought, but I wanted to hear more about it.

All-
Individual learning styles, time of day and certain combinations of learners make for a varied day, don't they? That's why teachers will never be replaced by on-line instruction. There is always a need to facilitate and respond to individual needs and interpretations.

Hope you are having (or had) a great day. How are those portfolios and videos coming?
