Week 3 Starting to teach

As I visited you last week, I noted that everyone is beginning to teach. What is that like? What are you and others doing, feeling and saying about your teaching? This is basically an open comment week, so go for it! (If you haven't already decided which defiant student(s) or behaviors you are going to target from the first assignment, go back and do that as well.)

Wow, that's quite the grapevine you have! I love the "so far" tag. Are these mothers bf's with their daughters?

Teaching is going interestingly well. Ms. Korte has already told me to stop being so hard on myself-Hey, I can only be me right?

She has given me a lot of positive feedback and it seems the mistakes I feel I make are only noticable to me.

Was a good week though, my lessons went over well with the kids and they seem to be holding on to the knowledge when I test them later in the week so... good.

My favorite thing I have to admit- Busting kids texting. Do these kids not realize we are still college students and pulled these same moves on our econ teacher???

Preschool starts in a week and I am super stoked. I have been able to help with set up and ordering toys/equipment since Ms. Korte just took the class over this year.

I am still super tired! Yesterday I was up at 4:30 so I could get to Phoenix by 7:30 for on all day Ed Professions training. PS- I L-O-V-E working with the Ed Professions students. They are just a different breed of HS student.

Captain- When you told me I might reconsider grad school right away because someone would put the right content area in my hands and I would shine... I think Ed. Professions is that content area.

: Ok so, I am really not happy about this LRC class. I know, I know, this is off subject. But, I have so much going on and now I have to read these 20 page articles(3 each week???) and post a discussion about two of them? Then write two reflections on what two other students say about them? They said "Don't worry, we have student taught and we know what you are going through. We know you are taking a big load on with teaching so we kept that in mind when creating this course." Wow, I would hate to think what the course would be like if they hadn't kept that in mind. Oh well, not like I need time to create lesson plans for 3 different content areas or anything. Wait, I do.

: I appologize for that outburst. I have to say again that I am extremely thankful my initial placement fell through. My cooperating teacher is my perfect match. So perfect it's a bit scary. We both like Vegas, we both are blue, we both play blackjack, we both got fired from burger king after 1 week of employment. She has really made me feel welcome and comfortable to approach her with any questions or concerns about teaching. I couldn't be happier here. And the school! I don't remember observing at any school where the administration was this supportive of its staff. I am getting a MHS tattoo tomorrow in honor of the school. (that's actually a joke. seriously I'm kidding... really.)

Anywaysssssssssss. I miss you all. When are we all getting together :(

I officially start monday to take over....things have been going well except for yesterday. I think mrs. ap and myself both kind of lost it with the students...it must be the spring weather right now. Students are not listening, not wanting to do thier work, and mrs. ap had to give the studnets a very serious lecture once she saw that students were taking their cell phones into preschool..NOT ACCEPTABLE!! I hope monday goes well!

I am really enjoying taking over 2nd and 3rd periods. The students seem to enjoy when I teach and participate. They don't see me as someone who will let them get away with things. I really try to keep strait that I am not their friends, but need to act professional and this seems to earn their respect.

With the proper preparation and planning, the lessons go very well, I believe, and Mrs. Campbell agrees. She comments on things to improve, but also lets me know when she liked something that I did, even though she knows what I am going to be doing, but there are times when improvisation is necessary, and I believe I am pretty successful during these instances. It can be tough, students sometimes take that opportunity to get off-task when there is a change to the original plan, but reigning them back in utilizing turning off the lights or I have found making a loud jarring noise works well to get back their attention.

I look forward to continue teaching these classes, and taking on the other two periods when I feel ready!
