So......I dont know who knows...but I signed for a teaching position at Maryvale high school in Phoenix as the Early Childhood Development teacher this weekend. It all happened really fast but everything felt right about it and so I accepted the offer. I am sooooo excited and still in shock that I have a teaching job for next year. The administrative staff was amazing and it really seems that they are going to support me to make it a great program there. They want me to start up FCCLA there so I am excited for that as well! It will be a challenge but I think I am ready and capable! :)

On another note, I cannot believe we are in our thirteenth week! Yay Megan and Nick you officially have a break! a weird break...but a break! :) Get some rest!

Lauren Congrats! I am really happy for you! Next week Bruce will be gone to Washington for a conference so I have the little angels all week to myself. I am doing a lesson on Nutrtion which I am really excited about. I have been applying for jobs in IL but so far no luck. I emailed one principal who told me that having an IL certification was a requirment and therefore I was not able to interview and such. Which I really do not understand because I have to graduate before I can get any certificate its weird to me and very frustrating. But I am still applying and emailing principals before hand. I hope that somethings comes along. By the way does anyone know how long the process takes to get your cert?
Megan enjoy your break! I know I can use one!

Nick,
There's a pdf available at:
http://www.ade.state.az.us/certification/generalinfo.pdf
That answers all these questions. Your secondary certificate is part of the institutional endorsement you filled out at orientation. Once your degree is posted, they will send it to you. you will then send or take this to the teacher certification office. If you had finished your degree in My, you'd have been eligible to go to the on-campus certification day in late May in the COE. You can ONLY get your secondary certification through institutional endorsement, You'll all have to send in or do walk in for your CTE-FACS certification. Remember they are two different things-a level (secondary) and a subject matter (CTE-FACS) certification.

Hello All!

Lately my students thought I was going to be teaching them next year. When I mentioned I was done with student teaching in May and will graduate form the University of Arizona they all got a bit sad. I guess that means I have made a great impact on the lives of many students hopefully. Nowadays I always have students coming in and out of the classroom. I play music at lunch and students are able to come in and work, ask questions, or just eat lunch and hangout. On Monday I made a realization though that I have one student who is usually in my classroom at lot a lunch and likes to talk to me. I believe she may not have many friends. Today she was not at lunch though so perhaps she made some friends.

I’m starting to realize what motivates different students. Yet, at the same time some students still, one in particular just does not care or want to do an assignment I gave today. She just kept saying she couldn’t do it and it was too hard. I told her yes you can do it, it’s not that hard. Just complete the assignment to the best or your ability. Needless to say she didn’t work on any of the assignment and still says she cannot complete it. I really dislike students who pretend or like to act like they are not competent even when they are.

For those of you going to competition for FCCLA on April 20 and 21, competition is less than 2 weeks away. I’m sure I’ll see you around hopefully. I’ll be with our students when they are not competing as Sharon is supposed to train the Interior Design judges and Lauren Moraga is a room consultant.

The week after competition Sharon is gone so I’ll have the students completely. I’m excited. Hopefully I get a sub that doesn’t sleep in class. Lol. One I had which was actually a good sub ended up dozing in a class. Oh boy good times.

I am finally back into how I like to teach things; showing a PowerPoint, explaining an activity with a handout and rubric. Showing a sample and then letting students lose to learn on their own and complete the assignment/project with guidance of course. My students are creating color boards right now. Yeah color boards. Students within the last few weeks have been full of questions and anytime someone asks a question or says they have a question, I usually reply I have an answer. Today in six hour about five students were saying I heard from so and so (another student in my design class either I had for block day on Wednesday or earlier that day) that today is fun. I’m glad that students can recognize when lessons are engaging and not so boring and have lots of hands on components.

During student teaching for me it has been the students that have made it worth all the effort.

Nick and Megan hope you’re having a nice break!

Anyone else really want to know what they got on the AEPA? I wish we got to know next Monday instead of having to wait until April 27th.

They certainly take a long time to grade the test.
