First I want to jump back to the last topic and talk about my problem kids. They were labeled problem kids because they had pretty rough behavior. Before I took the class over it was frightening how defiant they were and how many times the F-bomb was dropped. The situation was partially defused before I took the class thanks to a late transfer of one of the kids. The others I have essentially taken under my wing. I basically just make sure they know I appreciate and really believe in them. It's almost like I made allies of my potential enemies in a sense. The days the artists formerly known as bad kids don't show up saddens me. Also, they seem to relate to me more. I am guessing it is my maturity level.
Anywayssssssss.
Life is pretty good. I am glad I let go of a social life in the last year or so, otherwise this would be depressing. Yesterday I had a meeting with my honors society so I left from Marana and drove directly to campus to hold my meeting. After that, I drop directly back to Marana because I promised two of my students I would watch their last home basketball game. So there I sat in the bleachers-cheering and, of course, grading papers at the same time.
I am torn because I am really enjoying myself but am trying to figure out why. lol. I mean I wake up early (which everyone knows is not a typical me move) and go to bed late. The time in between is filled with grading, plotting my next move in the classroom, and working on projects for various committees.
Most of the staff is amazing here. Marana is just a completely different world compared to other school districts. There are only two people at MHS that I could do without, the rest are top notch.
I was told to fully immerse myself in the Marana High experience by the principal here. So, I have been going to every meeting I can, going to any event I can, working with any committee I can, and going to Chuy's with the other teachers any Friday I can. I think my one hour of Chuy's on Friday is my only "social life" activity. However, I don't feel like it is because I still feel like everyone is watching me.
So I guess bottom line, I love it. Just don't why lol.
Brandon (Ro-Dawg), Wow, you are completely immersed, aren't you? Even sucking it up after feeling completely awful for the sake of the kids and the preschool! I am thinking it has been very hard on you to have all the responsibility while your cooperating teacher is out. Give yourself a pat on the back for making it to Friday!!
So today I am on day 4 of work, night after night after night !!! I am exhausted! I also have 3 periods worth of projects that are staring at me needing graded as well as starting a new section in class. OVERWHELMED !!!! On a positivs note I had a one on one conversation with one of my failing students and the next day she came to class with her project done and even volunteered to present first !! WOAH! happy v-day to all, hope your kids were so so sweet.
Today I went to a meeting at the east side JTED. Some of the usual suspects were there- My cooperating teacher of course, Ms AP, Connie Campbell... I was hoping to see Chanel and Pat, but noooooooooooooooooooooo. C'mon, if I can drive all the way from Marana High you guys can make the trek ;)
Anyway, main topic was the budget cuts being voted on by the senate tomorrow. Looks pretty ugly with big hacks being taken at CTE. We might be screwed in the senate but it goes to the house next so call you reps and tell them you want it revised and CTE to be funded.
Wow Brandon, Im glad to hear you're doing so well...and alissa I hope things get less stressful for you...Are you able to take a few nights off work?
Things have been looking better since the last time I saw each of you. This week my defiant class has been well behaved. I had a fun activity for them on v-day to make v-day cards for the preschoolers and then we went into the preschool to read the cards to them. Aside from teaching, there has been multiple meetings that Mrs. AP and I have to attend to. At times its hard keeping up with everything Mrs. Ap does...but its also very beneficial to really see the "big picture" of everything.
Totally rocked the smart board this week!! I worked really well!! I survived my 5 days in a row at work!...two days off and now back for 3 more ugh! Today I am handing out progress reports to my failing students and having them get them signed by their parents. eeekkk for them! last night I stayed up and graded three periods worth of projects...the good news, tonight I will go to bed at 8!!! I'm determined!
Yes Yes! I will attach the toddler jeopardy game! Today we also played Random Jeopardy! we had some free time after students had completed all their assignmnets and activities for the day. The class had a blast! Check both of them out! I just found random facts online on the different catogories. Enjoy!
Today I gave my students the option of a video or me doing a presentation. I told them they had to fill out the questions sheet either way and the information would be the same. They chose me in all three classes :) kind of a cool feeling I think. I do have to say though that I am stuck on fibers and fabrics....i taught the information today and want to give them time to let it sink in before I do a review. I just am sooo stuck on what type of project to give them to do with the info. GRRRR

On my mind today...
I got insanely sick last night. Like the same sick I was over the entire winter break. All symptoms are the same and I feel miserable.
However, here I am wrapping up a day where I put on a happy face and forced myself not to show how miserable I was.
Tomorrow is assembly schedule so all I have to do is fight to get to 12pm or so.
Ready, go.

Thanks for posting, Alissa! My sympathies on all of the work days in a row. Is this the last week of that or do you have next week, too?
WE were looking at The Sandlot today getting ready for movie day. That Wendy Peffercorn scene is a riot!
And good for you on getting that failing student to turn around. how's she doing this week?

Today went well, I prepared a jeopardy review game on our toddler unit. The students seemed to enjoy it!
@Alissa- How are you doing? Are you getting any more sleep and/ feeling less exhausted?
@Chanel-Do share your Jeopardy game as an attachment. Put your name on it so everyone who uses it can give you credit.
@Brandon- I appreciate your posts about contacting your legislators. This is the time I told you about in 409!!
@All- Feel free to share some of your best teaching ideas as attachments so others can have them in their files.
Also, please know that I have been after Patrick about not posting here. I don't know what the issue is now.
